Drop Off is a multiplayer map for Halo 5. An eerie, ancient installation lurks below the snowy mountains, suspended above the abyss. It is designed as a Neutral Capture the Flag map, but can also be used for Slayer. To play on this map (Drop Off), check out my Forge files! Xbox Gamer Tag: Tendency097

After my experience with Stadium, I focused a lot more on interesting sightlines, different movement routes and some lighting. I wanted to make a floating map to add a degree of difficulty to just navigating the terrain. It requires a bit more skill to move around without falling to your death. My initial sketch changed drastically and after I laid out the basic floor plan, I did a lot of breaking down shapes in Forge – raising this space, scooping out a hole here. It was a much more “organic” building process, though the entire map is very cube shaped and blocking.

The look and feel I was going for was a pseudo Forerunner kind of place, very alien and not as grand as some of their structures. But I also wanted it to be very eerie and labyrinthine. Standing in the middle of the map alone makes you sort of lose yourself. But since I wanted it to be dark and puzzle like to move through, I did need to make sure I had lots of good indicators for where the player was. I did this with lighting.
